The InnerChange Executive Team, led by David Michel, President and CEO, combines successful business experience with a passion to serve. We know that our health as an organization depends absolutely on the quality of services we provide for our families. Because of this, we have assembled a leadership team with proven experience running successful businesses that make a difference.
David Michel, President and CEO
David Michel is a Dallas-based entrepreneur with extensive experience in healthcare, technology and media-related enterprises. David is best known for the children's television show he created and produced in 1994 titled Jay Jay the Jet Plane, an international hit that teaches preschool children important life lessons in a highly entertaining format. Jay Jay the Jet Plane airs daily on PBS and other networks around the world and is a popular tool for preschool educators. Prior to creating Jay Jay, Mr. Michel was Vice President of Marketing & Sales for Merritt, Hawkins and Associates, a national healthcare consulting firm. More recently, he founded and served as Chairman and CEO of WinningHabits, an international provider of technology-based wellness programs for large employers and health plans. WinningHabits is dedicated to helping employers promote health and balance among their employees. After growing the company for five years, Mr. Michel merged WinningHabits with Matria Healthcare (NASDAQ: MATR) in October of 2005.
Lance R. Davis, Chief Financial Officer
Lance R. Davis is the Chief Financial Officer for InnerChange. He was most recently the Chief Financial Officer of Altius Health Plans, a regional HMO with over 220,000 members, where he served for nine years. At Altius Lance was part of a small team of executives who turned around a failing entity and restored it to profitability. Lance and his team achieved success by improving operational efficiency and customer service; the result is the number-one rated insurer for customer service in the state of Utah. Lance has worked in healthcare for 17 years and is a graduate of the University of Utah (BS Finance) and Brigham Young University (MBA).
Ashley Auchterlonie, Director of Marketing
Ashley has worked in the behavioral healthcare industry for 16 years. Her extensive experience includes admissions, case management, strategic planning and customer-oriented sales in both the education and behavioral healthcare fields. She has held the positions of Regional Marketing Manager for Psychiatric Solutions, Sales and Marketing Consultant for Appian Education, and the National Sales Representative for The Brown Schools. In addition, Ashley has experience working directly with families as both an Admissions Director and Clinical Case Manager. She is passionate about client-centered approaches to marketing and has built a strong national reputation based on integrity, trust, and a commitment to her clients' wellbeing. Raised on the east coast, Ashley attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a degree in psychology. She resides in Austin with her family.
Kacy Kilpatrick, Director of Human Resources & Risk Management
Kacy has worked in the human services industry since April of 1998. He joined InnerChange in 2000 as the Director of Human Resources at New Haven Residential Treatment Center, where he led the human resource side of three major program expansions. Kacy was promoted to director of human resources for Innerchange in 2006, where he has been responsible for the transition of the HR function as InnerChange has acquired programs. He earned his Professional of Human Resources (PHR) certification in 2002 and has maintained that certification while earning his MBA from the University of Maryland University College (April 2008). Kacy is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management. Kacy is happily married and has three beautiful daughters.
Program Directors
Dustin Tibbitts, LMFT; New Haven Residential Treatment Center
Dustin has been with New Haven from its inception, beginning as a Staff Supervisor working directly with the girls (something he loves). Dustin's experience includes fifteen years working with intensive in-patient residential treatment settings, rape and suicide crisis lines, and raising five foster teenagers in his home over a two year period. He directed the development of New Haven's Values Program and its employee training program. His pre-New Haven management experience includes two years in sales, one year in marketing and business development, and one year in a start-up hearing aid manufacturing business with two partners. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor degree in Psychology and from Southern Christian University with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. His clinical expertise is in the areas of healing trauma, attachment disorders, sexual abuse, personality disorders, eating disorders, and depression. Dustin and his wife have a daughter and two sons. He loves to snowmobile, hike, camp, garden, play jazz, and wrestle with his kids.
Dave Prior, LMFT; Sunrise Residential Treatment Center
Dave earned his Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University. He is EAGALA certified and trained as an Arbinger Facilitator. Having worked in several adolescent treatment centers, Dave has developed clinical specialties that include family systems work and conflict resolution. He is particularly savvy in his work with oppositional defiance, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and identity formation. Dave has a very calming effect upon those he works with, a great sense of humor, and a fair and even method of therapy. He has an expertise in helping families form and maintain meaningful relationships.
Dave and his wife enjoy spending their free time camping, being outdoors, and doing water sports with their four children.
Clinical Leadership
John L. Stewart, LCSW
John received his Bachelor's degree from Utah State University, continuing his education at Brigham Young University where he earned a Master's of Social Work. John has been practicing in the mental health field for the past ten years, specializing in healing a wide range of addictions, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, and therapist training; he is a state-approved supervisor for interning social workers. John developed New Haven's trauma model – the framework upon which most of our therapeutic interventions hang. He has also developed and managed Intensive Outpatient and General Outpatient Programs for Drug and Alcohol services. John worked for five years as the Clinical Director for a private, non-profit agency where he conducted therapy, trained clinicians, administrated the program, and developed new programs. In addition, he developed and directed Crisis Line Services prior to involvement in the mental health field. John has been involved in community-based youth organizations for the past 15 years and is the Vice President for NATSAP's Utah Chapter and for BYU's Social Work Alumni Organization. He is fortunate to be married to a wonderful woman, with whom he has three sons. John loves to travel and be in the outdoors, camp with his kids, and is a geography wizard. He is a fantastic cook and is well-versed in Native American lore.
Jack Hinman, Psy.D.
Jack is a licensed psychologist and received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri. He completed his APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of Utah's Neuropsychiatric Institute, and later finished his post-doctoral residency in Community Mental Health in Texas. Jack's clinical experience is wide ranging and includes psychological assessment; individual, family, and group therapy; and adolescent therapy. He has provided psychological services in variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, schools, wilderness programs, and outpatient settings. Jack is a specialty trained and experienced Dialectical Behavior therapist, and his clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of personality and eating disorders.
Jack is passionate about his work as a clinician, but he also loves to play. He is an avid snowboarder and mountain biker and enjoys spending time with his wife and son.
David Paulson, M.D., Psychiatrist
Dr. Paulson attended Brigham Young University and received an undergraduate degree in biochemistry. He later completed medical school at the University of Utah and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed a 4-year residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Utah. During his last year of residency he served as Chief Resident for the University of Utah, Department of Psychiatry. He is currently an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for the University of Utah, Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Paulson is Board Certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He works in private practice in addition to working at New Haven. He is married and has three girls with whom he enjoys spending free time. His interests include home improvement projects, waterskiing, and hiking.
